MISSION & GENERAL INFORMATION
The Robin I. Kroogman New Haven Animal Shelter, located at 81 Fournier Street, is a division of the New Haven Police Department. The goal of the animal shelter and its staff is to service the community as effectively as possible. Members of this unit care for all animals with compassion, using the safest and most humane treatments.
New Haven’s animal shelter, with over sixty dog kennels and thirty cat compartments, is one of the largest municipal shelters in the State of Connecticut and attracts over three thousand visitors annually. The animal shelter will take in as many as nine hundred dogs and cats each year and investigate approximately one thousand animal related calls. Through its partnership with the City of New Haven Humane Commission, The Friends of the New Haven Animal Shelter, Inc., and The North Shore Animal League, the shelter sponsors several off-site adoption events throughout the year (in addition to adoptions at the shelter, which occur year-round.
