DOG LICENSING

Connecticut state law requires all pet owners to license their dogs.*

  • All dogs over six months must be licensed.
  • All dogs must be licensed by June 30th of each year. A one dollar fee will be charged for each month late.
  • All dogs must have a current rabies vaccination.

Licensing also provides vaccination and sterilization benefits for pets.

Bring proof that your dog has been vaccinated for rabies and is spayed or neutered to:
The Robin I. Kroogman New Haven Animal Shelter
81 Fournier Street – New Haven
(203) 946-8110

or
The City Town Clerk’s Office
200 Orange Street – New Haven
(203) 946-8349
open 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday
Licensing fees: $8 spayed/neutered; $19 if not spayed/neutered.
* In 2013, failure to license your dog can result in a $75 fine, and failure to vaccinate can result in a $136 fine.
